The Power of His Presence- The Mystery, His Riches, His Power

Text:Acts 3:19 and Ephesians 1:1-21

Introduction: Only the indwelling presence of God’s Spirit can bring refreshing restoration to our lives! Only the mystery which is, Christ in you bring about the glorious character and the influential power of His life to our lives and society! In today’s lesson we will define what the Mystery is, what are the riches of His glory, and what is His power within us.

Point 1: The Mystery– Possessing His Spirit Within

Our union with Christ through His indwelling Spirit
The mystery of Christ and His empowering, indwelling presence in our lives was kept secret from past generations and ages until the preaching of the gospel of Christ on the day of Pentcost! As Paul writes in Colossians chapter one the mystery is, “Christ in you the hope of glory!”
The administration of the mystery speaks of the new standard of life. It could be literally translated “House Rules” of conduct made possible by the indwelling Spirit of Christ!

Point 2: His Riches-Possessing His Character Within

The riches of glory are His manifest character in us!
The Scriptures teach that the riches of Christ’s glory are made known to His church through the preaching by the Lord’s New Testament apostles and prophets. We are also told from the Scripture, Christ’s magnificent character is to be manifested through His church in all they do and say!
The riches of His glory are His magnificent character qualities that are manifested in the lives of Paul, in Colossians 3:12-15, lists the character qualities as, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, love, and peace. The riches of glory are also defined as God’s kindness, tolerance, grace and mercy towards us.
The riches of glory are His manifest character in us!

Paul describes Christ’s glorious character, in Galatians 5:22-23, when he lists what the Spirit of Christ in us will produce in our character. The list includes; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Point 3: His Power– Possessing His Strength Within

We possess His power to fulfill His eternal purpose!
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we are also given the spiritual power to walk, or rather live, just like Jesus Christ! Paul says we are able to walk in love just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us an offering and sacrifice for us!
This power given to us by God, through His indwelling Spirit of righteousness, helps us to endure overwhelming hardships and trials as we serve Him by living a life of integrity and sharing the hope that we have in Christ.
