PURIFYING THE HEART- “Our Emotions & Feelings”

Text:1 Timothy 1:5 and 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Introduction: A diseased spiritual heart is often revealed through the selfish, hurtful, and cruel expressions of our emotions. An example would be “Outbursts of Anger” A healthy spiritual heart reveals itself in gentleness and kindness.
Point 1: Feelings, Emotions & Symptoms of Heart Disease
- To purify spiritual hearts,first identify emotional diseases
- Feelings are… impressions or emotional responses produced by a person, place, thing, or event.
- Emotions are defined as…the agitation of passions or sensibilities often involving physiological changes.
- An Example of a Diseased Heart … 1 Corth. 13:4-5 Provoked to anger or wrath, screaming, yelling accompanied by physical or emotional abuse of another.
Point 2: Healing an Emotionally Diseased Heart
- The cure comes through repentance, faith and His Spirit
- Ephesians 4:22-24 & 31-32“Repentance Process”
- Reference Point:Examine your life behaviors and identify a habit you have in the flesh that you need to put to death. 8:12-14)
- New Mindset:Set your mind on the character qualities of a spiritual man. ( 8:6 & Col. 3:1-2)
- Intentional Practice: Put on the new character qualities that exemplify a godly person. 13:14 &Col. 3:12-14)
- 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Live by faith in what God says about you in the Scriptures. Remember, as a man thinks within himself, so he is. (Prov. 23:7 & Eph. 2:10)
- Galatians 5:22-25
We are told to live by the Spirit Christ’s Spirit produces self-control, gentleness,s and mercy Tests your motives and live like Christ. Prov. 16:32)
