Power In His Presence-The Hope of His Calling

Text:Ephesians 1:18 and Matthew 22:1-14
Introduction: Three little words have profound, far reaching, and eternal consequences. The three words are, “Hope,” “Called,” and “Chosen.” Only those who have been called and chosen by God have any real hope in this life and in the life to come. In this lesson a disciple will learn how each of those words are defined and also how and when God calls and chooses a person for salvation. The disciple will also learn how to answer the call so they may be chosen of God.
Point 1: The Power of Three Little Words!
- Our “hope” is built on His “calling” and “choosing”!
- Hope:The word “Hope” as it is used in the book of Ephesians 1:18 is defined in the Greek language and means, To anticipate with joyful pleasure and confident expectation of God’s blessings, being “In Christ” now and at His return on the last day. . Heb 6:13-20 & Rom. 8:28-39
- Called: The word “Called” in the Greek language is defined as, The divine invitation from God to embrace salvation in the kingdom of God which is received through faithful obedience to the gospel of Christ in being baptized(immersed) into Christ for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 1:8-10
- Chosen:The word “Chosen” in the Greek, speaks of those individuals whom God has selected to receive His blessings, set apart from the rest of mankind, whom He has chosen through the faith of Christ and correctly obedience to His glorious gospel. In essence we are chosen for salvation when we believe and obey the gospel of Jesus Christ for the correct Biblical conviction Matt 22:1-14 & Eph. 1:3-4
Point 2: How Does He Call and Chose People?
- He calls and chooses us through and in the gospel!
Thessalonians 2:13-14 A person is chosen by God for salvation through the indwelling presence of His Spirit and their faith in the truth. It is for this salvation that a person is called by God through the gospel of Christ so they will be gain the glory of Christ.
- Ephesians 4:1
Christians are called through the gospel to live a life worthy of the glorious character of the Lord Jesus Christ. A life of humility, gentleness, patience, forbearance, love, united in Spirit in the bond of peace.
- Hebrews 6:9-12
As Christians we are called to be diligent in our ministering to the needs of the saints so that we may realize the full assurance of hope until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 2 Peter 1:10-11 As Christians we are called to be diligent and continue growing in moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love to make certain about God’s calling and choosing us for salvation through the gospel of Christ.
