GOD’S LOVE MANIFEST FROM A PURE HEART

Text:1 Timothy 1:5 and Luke 6:45

Introduction:The world needs to see and experience the love of God which was manifested in the life of Christ.  We need to purify our hearts according to God’s standard so we too can love people as Christ loves them. 

Point 1: Defining Terms of the Verse…A Quick Review

• Genuine love of God requires a pure “Spiritual” heart! 

• Love (26) “Agape”The affection and benevolence of God expressed through Christians for all people.

• Pure (2513) “Kathros”To be clean and pure.  Free from any false, corrupt, or evil ways.

• Heart (2588) “Kardia”The spiritual heart in man that controls and manifests the thoughts and feelings of the mind. 

Point  2: Defining the 4 Chambers of Our Spiritual Heart

• We must purify all four chambers of our spiritual heart!

• Thinking/Reasoning Chamber This chamber of the spiritual heart receives information through the five senses and reasons and relates the information to a person’s present reality.         Proverbs. 15:28/Mark 2:5-8 

• Emotional/Feeling Chamber This chamber expresses emotions and feelings based upon the work of the first chamber.Proverbs 15:13, 14:10, & 12:25 

• Motives/ Willful Chamber This chamber houses the “Why” we act as we do and the motivation to act our thoughts and emotions.    Hebrews 4:12/ Proverbs 4:4 

• Ethical/Moral Chamber This chamber governs and judges our thoughts, emotions, motives and actions. Proverbs 6:12-14, Luke 6:45, and Colossians 3:12-15 

Point 3: The Need to Examine Our Own Hearts

• Our heart motives for love of the brethren must be pure!

• Jeremiah 17:9-10 the human spiritual heart without God is desperately sick and evil.

• Proverbs 21:2 & 16:2 The man without God is self deceived and God examines His heart!

Practical Applications:

What caught your attention from today’s sermon?

From a practical standpoint, what does the love of God look like on a daily basis, in family, friend, work, and other relationships?

Why is a pure heart a requirement for the practical showing of God’s love in these many relationships?

Describe how a person can purify each of the four chambers of their spiritual heart.
