Conscience, Conviction and Considerations

Text:Timothy 1:5 and  Philippians 2:1-8

Introduction:The greatest idol in our lives is “Self!”  For those who are not yet Christians they are usually driven by selfishness and greed.  The “Self” can also reign in a Christian’s life if they are not in subjection to God’s will as found in the Scriptures.

Point 1: Conscience and Building Moral Awareness

  • Our conscience should always consider ours needs.
  • 1 Corinthians 8:1-8-Self is the worst idol!
  • Love for others must be first priority!
  • For us, God must be Pre-eminent!
  • Knowledge & Liberty- potential stumbling block
  • Sinning by wounding another’s conscience
  • I will not cause a brother to stumble!

Point  2: Conviction and Building the Christ Ethic

  • Our convictions should be Christ’s convictions
  • Hebrews 11:1-

*Faith is the core or substance of our life!

“Hupo” means Under/ “Stasis” means Stand

*Faith is what we are convinced of based on proof and evidence of Truth!

  • Galatians 2:20-

*Our faith must be the same kind of faith as Christ Jesus’ faith.

*Our core convictions and truths must be Christ’s core convictions and truths!

Point 3: Consideration and Building Our Families

  • Our considerations should be to build others up.
  • Hebrews 10:23-25-

*Consideration is to focus on the needs of others

*Literally to fix our eyes and mind on…

-How to motivate to love as Christ loves

-How to motivate to the good deeds of Christ

-How to encourage one another continually
