As we continue our expository study of 2 Corinthians 1:3-11 we will focus on verses eight and nine in a sermon titled, “Who Should We Trust Under Afflictions?” We will first closely examine the source and nature of the affliction Paul speaks in verse eight. We will find that his burdens were more than he could handle on his own. He need a greater source of strength and power to endure the extreme difficulties that he was facing for being a Christian fully committed to living and proclaiming the life of Christ in a godless and ruthless culture. In the second point we shall look at the choices we have in who we place our trust during times of affliction. Why is trusting in “Self” not a viable option? Why is trusting in the LORD the only option that will lead to life now and eternal life when He takes us home. We must develop an eternal perspective now when times are relatively easy. If the difficulties we have seen in the last two years are only the beginning of the affliction we may face in the near future. It is to our great advantage to grow our trust in the LORD in everything!
