Truth Statement of Jesus #5: “I Am The Door”

Text:John 10:1-10

Introduction:Jesus is the great illustrator of Truth!  This lesson will contain Christ’s illustration of Himself and the Christian community by describing a genuine shepherd and genuine sheep.  He will describe Himself as the “Door of the Sheep”

Point 1: His Illustration of Entering His Fold

Jesus uses a familiar example to illustrate this Truth

• The Genuine & Counterfeit of His Fold
  • Counterfeit…does not enter by the door
  • Genuine…enters only by the door

• Characteristics of Genuine Shepherds & Sheep
  • Shepherd enters by the door
  • Shepherd calls the sheep by name
  • Shepherd goes before them to lead them
  • Sheep hear His voice
  • Sheep follow the shepherd everywhere
  • Sheep know the voice of the shepherd
  • Sheep run away from strangers

Point  2: Jesus is the Door of the Sheep

• There is only one way to enter into the church and…
• The Door to Salvation and Abundant Life
  • “Through Me”_In order to enter the eternal kingdom of God we must enter through Christ. 6:3-4 & Col. 3:12
  • “Salvation” comes through the act of faithful obedience to the gospel in baptism Mark 16:15-16 & 1 Peter 3:21
  • “Life…Abundantly” comes through Christs death, burial, and resurrection 2 Peter 1:3 & Eph 3:17-19

• The Thief- The way of destruction
  • Steal sheep from shepherd Luke 8:11-12
  • Kill the sheep
  • Destroy their lives
