Truth Statement #6 “I am the Good Shepard” Part 1

Text:John 10:1-18  and John 13:3-17

Introduction: Today we define the good or genuine shepherd and also the good and genuine sheep.  Christ is good because He sacrificed Himself as the good Shepherd.  The genuine sheep or Christian will follow this example.

Point 1: I am the Good Shepherd of the Sheep

• Jesus owns us through His total sacrifice for us.
• His Ownership…The Shepherd bought the sheep
  • Ownership demands a purchase be made

Including the exchange of things of value.

• The purchase price of the Christians lost soul is the precious life blood of Christ. 1 Peter 1:18-19,  Matthew 20:28,  Titus 2:11-14,  1 Corth. 6:18-20
• His Sacrifice…demanded a perfect life be sacrificed for a life filled with sin/sorrow
• To “lay down”…His life meant a total 100% life sacrifice on His part
• The “Life” He laid down…was His body, soul and spirit. He gave up his “Self” so we could be saved from our sin.
