PURIFYING THE HEART- “Our Thinking/Reasoning”

Text:1 Timothy 1:5 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Introduction: As we have discovered the “Spiritual Heart” in man has four chambers. These include the Thinking/Reasoning chamber, the Emotional/Feelings chamber, the Motives/Will chamber and the Ethical/Moral chamber. The question to be answered in the next several lessons is how to heal this spiritual heart
Point 1: The Purpose of the First Chamber of the Heart
- To purify our hearts we must first understand its purpose
- The Purpose of the First Chamber of the Heart
- The purpose of our minds is to reason and vet out incoming information. (Isaiah 1:18-19)
- The reasoning process includes examining, discerning, and judging incoming information. (Colossians 2:8)
- The Problems in the First Chamber of the Heart
- Our problem is we have allowed our minds to be polluted and our reasoning ability damaged.(Isaiah 1:4-6a, Jeremiah 17:9)
- The source of this misinformation and deception is the devil and his minions.(John 13:2, Ephesians 6:10-11, 4:14)
Point 2: Purifying Our Thinking and Our Reasoning
- We must purge using God’s filter while focusing on Christ
- Make The Decision to Purge First, we must willfully decide we are going to carefully screen out destructive incoming information and influences. (Psalm 101:3-5)
- Install God’s Strong Filter Build strong filters in your thinking and reasoning by using the Word of God for you standard.Hebrews 4:12 & 5:14)
- Refocus Our Mindset We must set our minds on things above. We must look to Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. (Rom. 8:5-6, 12:2, Col. 2:8, Phil. 4:8-9, Hebr. 12:2)
