This morning we are moving on in our quest for answering the question, how do we walk in a manner worth of the calling with which we have been called in Christ Jesus? The first facet of this worthy walk is to possess and manifest all humility. Humility is serving others through the willful decision to put the interests and needs of others before your own. Jesus is the “Gold Standard” for humility in that He, “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond servant…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
This morning we build on humility by learning of what it means to also walk in all gentleness. Gentleness describes the inner condition of the mind and heart. It is a meekness before God and His will. The humble, gentle or meek heart before God and others will surrender their will to the will of God, the one who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light! First, we will clearly define the word gentle as an inner disposition that influences and directs our service to the LORD and others. Second, we will examine a few Scriptures that speaks of Christ’s gentleness/meekness and the gentleness of those of us who are called. Finally, we will use the Scripture to illustrate the greatness of Christ’s gentleness and meekness in His enduring the persecution and torture at the hands of evil men.
