Introducing the Vital Power of PRESENCE

Text:Psalm 16:11 and Acts 3:19

Introduction:Two important points will be shared in this the first lesson on “Presence”  The term “Presence” will be defined from both the Hebrew and Greek languages used in the Bible.  The second point will identify the 4 aspects of concept of “Presence.” 

Point 1: Defining Terms for a Foundation of Presence

  • There is no substitute for Face-to-Face Presence!
  • Presence (6440) Hebrew“Paneh”

Literally means “Face” in many different applications.  To come into the presence of and stand face-to-face. 

  • Presence (4383) Greek“Prosopon”

To be face-to face with particular emphasis on the eyes looking.  To have one present in person and in spirit.

  • Refreshing (403) Greek“Anapsuxis”

Stgs.: Recovery of breath, to revive.

Thys.: A cooling off or refreshing.  To refresh

one’s spirit, by fellowship, consolation, or kindness.

Vines:  To cool off.  To set the mind at ease 

Point  2: The Vital Importance of Presence

  • Total Personal Presence is essential to all parts of Life
  • “Failure to Thrive”- Lives without human contact or meaningful presence fail to thrive
  • Physical/Facial Presence- Present in the physical environment of another through eye contact, verbal conversation, and touch.
  • Mental/Intellectual Presence- Cognitive presence in a relationship, conversation, or activity with others
  • Emotional/Personal Presence- Appropriate and contextual emotional presence in relationships with others.
  • Spiritual/Moral Presence- Consistently and contextually expressing spiritual concerns for others while holding to the ethical standards of Christ.
